The SEL85F18 is the Sony FE 85mm F1.8, a full-frame portrait prime lens for Sony E-mount cameras. It features an 85mm focal length, which is one of the most popular choices for portrait photography because it gives natural facial compression and flattering background separation. The F1.8 aperture allows good low-light performance and creates smooth background blur (bokeh), helping subjects stand out clearly from the background.
This lens is part of Sony’s more affordable full-frame lineup, but it still delivers excellent sharpness, fast and quiet autofocus (dual linear motors), and solid optical quality. It is also lightweight (~371g) and compact, making it easy to carry for weddings, travel, and everyday shooting.
In simple terms, the SEL85F18 is a budget-friendly yet high-quality portrait lens, often recommended as one of the best “first portrait lenses” for Sony full-frame cameras.
